BFI pay dispute heads for a ballot
1 April 2010
BFI members meeting this week have asked the union to arrange for a ballot for industrial action.
The decision follows the recent breakdown of talks at ACAS.
At emergency meetings this week members discussed the fact that the 25 highest paid managers at the BFI earn between £60,000 and £109,000 per year; members also learnt that 12% of the BFI’s total salary costs are spent on just 0.06% of their employees.
National official, Pat Styles, said:
“Our members expressed outrage at the news that BFI managers were not prepared to offer a reasonable cost of living increase at ACAS, particularly given the level of the salaries of the senior management team.
"Our members made clear their wishes to me - they wish to be balloted for industrial action - we will be making the necessary arrangements."
